Consejeria Bilingue y Psicoterapia

Welcome

Greetings and Welcome to my Ph.D. Portfolio Website!

It is with great joy that I present to you my journey through the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Liberty University.  My name is Zoricelis Davila; my cultural heritage has its origins in Puerto Rico where I grew up and worked until I changed careers at the age of 30.  I moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1998 to pursue two master’s degrees, one in Marriage and Family Counseling and the second in Christian Education.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in good standing since 2005 and an Approved Supervisor for the State of Texas since 2009.  Including the years in residency for the licensure in Texas, I have been a counselor for 16 years.  I have also a private practice in Fort Worth, Texas serving the Latino community for 13 years.

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Liberty University in May 11, 2019.  I have been actively involved in the field of counseling by serving as a leader in the state of Texas in several cities, including my own city of Fort Worth. I have also been involved in Advocacy for the Latino community in issues of mental health, and marriage and family counseling.  My clinical experience includes being actively involved in an agency for victims of domestic violence as a volunteer counselor leading support groups in Spanish in the area of victim services and serving as the lead counselor at my private practice in Fort Worth.

I have been a supervisor for 10 years serving practicum students from various schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  In the area of teaching, I have been a co-instructor with Dr. Joy Mwendwa for the course CMHC 512, Group Counseling and with Dr. Mary Deacon teaching the online course COUN 691 Substance Abuse: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention.   I was also able to co-teach with Dr. Cynthia Doney the course COUN 699 Professional Counseling Internshp.   I have been teaching at an undergraduate level for 10 years at a small institute in San Antonio called Christian Latina Leadership Institute which was one of the institutes within the Baptist University of the Americas until it became an independent non-profit organization a few years ago.

My curriculum vitae provides a detailed description of my experience in every area of the competencies presented in this portfolio, leadership, advocacy and service, teaching, supervision, and counseling (clinical).   I am a highly motivated professional that always goes the extra mile to help those in need.  I give my 100% to pursue excellence in all I do and motivate in others the same excellence. I am resilient and strong not letting the challenges of everyday life be a limitation but an opportunity for growth and transformation.

It is my privilege and honor to invite you to explore my candidacy portfolio.  This is an important time in my doctoral journey since I share with you elements from my education representing significant milestones of my development and growth as counselor educator and supervisor.  This website is organized by area of competency. Each area of competency is assigned a page beginning with the list of competencies, followed with artifacts, photos, and a reflection about the process of developing such competency and skills.

I have been blessed to be a part of this Ph.D. program and be taught, mentored, and guided by such distinguished faculty.  Thank you for the privilege to share my journey with you.

Respectfully,

Zoricelis Davila, Ph.D., LPC-S
